Sonia and Hector, a professional Lindy Hop couple (Swing Dancers). They both have been teaching Lindy Hop on a regular basis in various dance schools in Barcelona since 2003 and they have been partly responsible for promoting the success of the Lindy Hop boom nationally. They are now are travelling all around the world involved in “spreading the Lindy Hop word”, venturing on as many attractive projects as possible. Sonia and Hector are keen to demonstrate their love and enthusiasm for Lindy Hop through their work in the hope that others too can enjoy and learn the same.
Hector and Sonia teaching perspective is focused on the fundamental aspects of what they find interesting in Lindy Hop; bouncing, partner communication and quality of movement form the basis of their teaching. From their own creative standpoint, teaching “cool” moves or combinations is not the priority, although they use them as tools for enjoyment and as a way for students to remember what they have absorbed during the classes. Hector and Sonia always try to incorporate their own individual creativity into their teaching, often showing students their own originality and invention in steps and movements which they have developed. They do this to help the student on their own creative journey and inspiration. Feedback has shown Hector and Sonia that students enjoy clear examples to explain certain movements.
Stefan Durham and Bethany Powell have been swing dancing - lindy hop, one-step, charleston and more - since 2003. They competed and performed nationally and internationally in the mid-2000s and taught Lindy Hop on the West Coast and in Colorado for years thereafter. They are inspired by the original Lindy Hop and jazz dancers of the 1930's and '40s, and love sharing the joys of partner dance and techniques for refining it with beginner and advanced dancers alike.
Cathy est une passionnée de la danse et de l’enseignement depuis plusieurs années. Tout d’abord une danseuse de claquettes, elle est rapidement tombée en amour avec les danses swing il y a plus de 18 ans. Depuis, elle a touché à différents styles de danse swing toujours dans le but de s’améliorer. Elle compte à son actif plusieurs années d’enseignement et de coaching qui lui permettent de partager son amour de la danse et de la musique. Son enthousiasme contagieux et sa formation pédagogique lui permettent de toucher les différents styles d’apprentissage de ses élèves. D’abord trompettiste, c’est à travers la musique qu’Alexandre découvre le swing. Ce n’est que plus tard, en 2006, qu’il a la piqûre pour cette danse. Sa fougue et son entrain l’amène naturellement à s’intéresser aux rythmes rapides ainsi qu’aux acrobaties. Il se perfectionne dans différents styles de danse swing avant de se mettre à l’enseignement où il y trouve un plaisir insoupçonné. Son désir de partager ses connaissances et sa grande capacité d’analyse lui permettent d’offrir à ces étudiants des rétroactions pertinentes tout en conservant un esprit ludique et divertissant. Cathy et Alex travaillent en équipe depuis 2014 et comptent à leur actif plusieurs heures d’enseignement au sein de l’école Port-O-Swing. Leur intérêt pour la compétition les a amenés à participer à plusieurs compétitions en tant que couple et troupistes. Ils partagent aussi cette passion en entraînant une troupe de danseurs, les Kamikazes, qui se sont mérités des podiums à multiples reprises.
